April 2016 is a month that will live long in the memory of Chatteris Town fans.

The Lilies lifted the Cliff Bullen Challenge Cup last Wednesday night after an unlikely 2-1 victory over higher-level Great Shelford, and sealed a week of success on Saturday after clinching promotion back to the Cambs League Kershaw Premier Division thanks to a 6-1 trouncing of Cambridge University Press.

The Lilies were languishing in seventh position in the Kershaw Senior A back at the beginning of March, but a run of 10 wins from 12 league encounters, including 54 goals, has fired them back into the Cambs Leagues’ top division after a three year absence.

Ashley Taylor’s men sealed their rise in class in style on Saturday thanks to a hat trick from star striker Craig Gillies, who now has a staggering 43 goals this term, and further goals from Alex Ashley, Ben Matthews and Gary Smith.

Chatteris can cap their week to remember with yet another cup final triumph on Wednesday, when they take on league rivals Outwell Swifts in the final of the William Coade Intermediate Cup at March Town’s GER ground (7.30pm).
