NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: Goal-scoring starlet Toby Allen signs off at March Town with Halstead Town double
Local scoring sensation Toby Allen signed off for March Town in the best possible way at the weekend.
The teenage talent notched both of the Hares’ goals in their 2-2 draw with Halstead Town at the GER in his final game at the club ahead of his move to higher-level King’s Lynn Town.
The youngster was snapped up by Ian Culverhouse’s men last week and showed why he was on their radar by taking his goals tally to nine in 13 games with a goal in each half.
The youngster will now go on to train alongside the likes of former Norwich City legends Grant Holt and Simon Lappin at The Walks – a factor he said was key for him in making the move across the border into Norfolk.
“It was a hard move to make but the support I’ve received from the chairman, manager and players has made it much easier and I can’t thank them enough,” he said.
“I don’t think many clubs could offer you the opportunity of training alongside the likes of Grant Holt and for a player my age it will help me develop massively.
“It’s always been my aim to get as far as I can with my football and the move helps that. I have to be reasonable and accept this isn’t going to be a short-term plan – it’s going to take hard work and dedication.
“It was a great feeling to score on my last game at March. I’m gutted that it didn’t lead to winning all three points but a point is a point.”
March released an official club statement on Allen’s move, saying: “We would like to wish Toby all the best and good luck on his new chapter.
“We are all sad to see him leave but pleased for him with this great opportunity to play at a higher standard of football.
“We as a club strive on bringing the best out of the young local talent and pushing them to be the best they can be so they can be noticed by higher-level clubs.
“Toby has been an influential and important player with the under 18s as a captain and first team for multiple seasons now, scoring some absolutely fabulous goals for both teams.”
March begin life without Allen by hosting his new club’s reserve side in the Knockout Cup tomorrow evening (7.45pm).
