Whittlesey Athletic Reserves are on a roll - and their scintillating recent form shows no sign of letting up.
Max Flintoft’s talents blew the PDFL Division One promotion chase wide open last Saturday with a superb 5-0 victory against league-toppers, Moulton Harrox Reserves.
The Fen outfit became only the second side to beat Moulton thanks to a double from Jack Flintoft and strikes from Jack Carter, Rik Hailstone and Kev Gilbert.
Saturday’s win saw Whittlesey take their goal tally to an impressive 30 in their last five league matches, and boss Flintoft was delighted with his side’s display.
“We had a game plan which was to get the ball out wide and it worked,” he said.
“We had them turned from the off with high intensity and they couldn’t keep up with our pace of play and it could have been more.
“It’s always pleasing to be creating so many chances against top opposition.
“Our goalkeeper, Charlie Bradshaw, only had one routine save to make in the whole 90 minutes and we were always in control of the game.
“The win proved we should be up there. Had it not been for a slow start things could have been a lot different.”
Whittlesey head into this Saturday’s clash with Peterborough Polonia just four points behind Long Sutton Athletic, who currently occupy the division’s second promotion spot with four games to go.
The Lincolnshire side take on Moulton Harrox Reserves this weekend, and Flintoft has admitted that he will have an eye on the outcome of that fixture on Saturday.
“We now focus on Saturday’s fixture,” added Flintoft.
“We just need to keep grinding away and hope Sutton Bridge slip up.”
