March Town chairman dreaming of FA Cup glory

HARES’ chairman Phil White is allowing himself to dream about FA Cup glory as his side face Desborough Town in tomorrow’s Preliminary Round at the GER.
March Town United have lost both of their league games this season but White believes the romance of the cup can inspire his players to escape from their league nightmare.
White said: “The magic of the cup is all about dreams.
“We’re only five games away from the first round proper now. The FA Cup for any club, whether that’s us or Wisbech, is massive. It livens everyone up. We beat Gorleston in the last round and played really well.
“March faced Swindon many years ago and what an achievement it would be to do something like that again.”
Desborough have had a wretched start to their own league campaign and lost 2-0 at home to King’s Lynn Town last Saturday to make it four United Counties League matches without a win.
White believes both sides poor starts will count for nothing after they progressed from the Extra Preliminary Round with their only victories so far this season.
He said: “We get to take our mind away from the league again as it’s a one-off game.
“Anything can happen in the cup. It’s a massive game and the biggest since I’ve been chairman. I want people to come and watch us although I understand two defeats in the league doesn’t look good.”
The winners will face Lowestoft Town in the next round and even if the club crash out the chairman will remain loyal to manager Jamie Weston.
White said: “We’re 120 per cent behind Jamie and better results will come.
“If we lost every game this season he would still be my manager as I believe in him and what he is trying to do. While I’m chairman of this club his job will never be under pressure.”
