March Town manager Brett Whaley revealed he is closing in on six new signings as his rebuild gathers pace.

The Hares chief has been a busy man since the end of the Thurlow Nunn League First Division season.

He has turned to a number of familiar faces as he aims to build a squad capable of climbing into the top half of the standings next term.

“I’ve had talks with a whole host of current and potential new players,” said Whaley. “It’s been really hectic for the last couple of weeks, but I really feel we are getting somewhere now.

“I’ve got five-or-six lads who are very close to signing and they will add plenty of experience and quality, which is exactly what we’re looking for.

“I need a group of players I can trust so I have gone after lads who I know are capable of doing a job week in, week out. Several of them hve played for me in the past at this level and higher.

“These are lads I know I can rely on and they also play for the right reasons. We don’t have a huge budget by any means, but we are trying to build for the future and that’s the message I’m getting across to players.

“The board are working really hard behind the scenes as well. We’re attracting stacks of new sponsors and there is already a feelgood factor around the place.”

Several existing players have also committed their futures to the Hares.

Defenders Stu Porter, Shaun White and David Jackson are back on board for next season along with midfield men Jack Rawson, Aiden Hollis and Ben Matthews.

Strikers Toby Allen and Casey Logan have also assured Whaley they are staying at the GER.

The club are searching for new bosses for both their Under 18 and reserve sides for next season following the resignations of Andy Wenn and Ashton Hodgson respectively.

Whaley confirmed those positions are likely to be filled in the coming days with the club in advanced talks with their preferred candidates.

All three Hares sides return for pre-season training on June 19. Whaley has scheduled seven friendlies for the first team.
