Chatteris Town have had their wonderful form on the pitch rewarded with a big funding boost to improve West Street.

The Lilies have been in fine form on the pitch in recent weeks; winning the Cliff Bullen Challenge Cup, William Coad Intermediate Cup and the William Cockell Memorial Cup and securing promotion to the Cambs Leauge Premier Division all within one month, and now the club is celebrating again after receiving a grant of £75,000 from Sport England.

Chatteris recently announced plans to refurbish their West Street ground in a scheme called ‘2020 Vision’ – to mark the club’s centenary in 2020 – and the funding from Sport England will go towards new facilities.

A club statement said: “CTFC has applied to Sport England so that facilities can receive a much-needed update and modernisation. This bid is for £75,000 and CTFC thanks everyone who has helped this effort.

“CTFC is able to announce that the bid has been successful and all thanks are given to Sport England and Living Sport’s Simon Fairhall for their ongoing support. There are details to be sorted but work should commence quite soon to make sure that West Street’s facilities are improved for its centenary.

“Thank you Sport England and Living Sport. CTFC thanks also MP Steve Barclay, Fenland District Council, Chatteris Town Council, Cambridgeshire Football Association, the club’s sponsors and everyone who has helped in this bid.”

Chatteris celebrated the news with a 4-1 win over Girton United in the Kershaw Senior A Division.

Anton Kaval’s brace, Gary Smith and Lee Barnett helped the Lilies to their 14th game unbeaten in all competitions, and Ashley Taylor’s men will finish their league campaign against Orwell at West Street tomorrow night (7.45pm).
