Whittlesey Athletic Reserves continued their rise through the local football ranks last weekend by storming to a North Cambs Junior Cup final spot.

Jack Flintoft, Jack Carter and Ricky Hailstone all notched braces and Kev Gilbert also struck as Max Flintoft’s charges hammered Wisbech St Mary A 7-0 to set up a meeting with either Chatteris Town Reserves or March Town Reserves in the final.

Athletic have now hit 15 goals in their last two matches, and boss Flintoft says confidence is flowing through his squad.

“We controlled the game from start to finish,” he said.

“We were never at our best but always in control and we scored some really well-worked goals.

“The boys’ attitude was absolutely spot-on and it was a very professional performance. Hopefully we can continue this form into tomorrow’s game.”

Whittlesey are in knock-out action again this weekend and will go head-to-head with Ramsey Town for a place in the last four of the PFA Challenge Cup.

“Ramsey are a very good side and are in form at the moment,” said Flintoft.

“The squad we have together is the best I’ve ever been involved with in my time playing and coaching – the togetherness, the banter, and the football we are playing.”
