IT PROVED to be a brilliant weekend for March Town Cricket Club, who fielded four winning teams.

In Saturday's Tucker Premier match, March I produced a display of 'total cricket' to sweep aside Kimbolton at the Avenue.

A confident batting performance from March's top order was summed up by Alan Mills' 59, Ed Rodgers' 42 and Shardul Brahmbhatt's blistering 81 as the home side cruised to 234-4.

And it was a similar story with the ball, as all four March bowlers took wickets. Chris Ringham and Ed Rodgers led the way with 3-30 and 3-32 respectively, while Peter Hills (2-26) and Chris Peckett (1-17) also contributed well.

Only opener Haasbroek (60) rallied as the visitors were bowled out 128 runs short.

In CCA Senior One, an under-strength March II side picked up an early season confidence booster ahead of what could be a tough season.

The home side, fresh from the previous week's nine wicket mauling of Hardwick and Shepreth, elected to field and soon come up against wicketkeeper and batsman, Gary Nicholls who hit a swashbuckling 40 that contained one six in eight boundaries.

He helped put on 56 runs for the first wicket with James Hilliard (13), before both lost their wicket in quick succession.

John Wallis (28) and the hard-hitting Richard Green (31) put March back on track and thanks to skipper Brian Tombs (25 not out) they finished with a reasonable total of 168-8.

A vital wicket from Richard West stopped the initial rush from Over and the experienced Green (4-34) and Stuart Arnold (2-29) shared six wickets to help bring Over's reply to an end at 105.

The good news continued with March III's victory against NCI in CCA Junior Two.

NCI's innings began well but then Phil Goodfellow (4-24) and Greg Short (3-17) got to work and destroyed the batting order, dismissing them for 110.

The loss of early wickets put March on the back foot but Nick Peck (28) and top scorer Casper Jonker (44 not out) guided them to their target with five wickets standing.

The winning weekend was rounded-off by March IV who recorded a 62-run victory over Witcham at Neale-Wade on Saturday.

The March batsmen were in good form to post a score of 187-5, largely thanks to fine innings from Mark Hilliard (46), Glen Hulley (35) and James Mortlock (33).

Alsop's knock of 63 proved to be the only highlight for the visitors as Andrew Wright (2-19), Hulley (2-43) and Neil Alger (2-32) helped to skittle out Witcham well short of their target.

* DODDINGTON'S first team enjoyed mixed fortunes at the weekend.

They began well with a good eight-wicket home victory against Bottisham and Lode in CCA Senior Division Three on Saturday.

The home bowlers were rampant as the visitors were dismissed for just 85. Russell Moon led the way with 7-25 and Andrew Chatters and Jamie Long took the other wickets.

The Doddington batsmen reached their target for the loss of only two wickets. Harry Vaheesan (39) and Mark Peck (23 not out) top scored.

Things looked good for another win on Sunday, when Doddington entertained Abington in the first round of the Walker Cup.

The visitors struggled to a total of 126 as the Bamford cousins, Mathew (5-28) and Antony (3-26) caused all kinds of problems.

However, Doddington were unable to score runs in reply and were eventually bowled out for 112.

The only resistance came from Antony Bamford with 23 and James Welcher with 38.

Tomorrow, Doddington I are away to Bottisham and Lode, and the second team entertain Pymoor.

* IT WAS a heart-breaking weekend for Chatteris' first team, who lost both of the weekend's games in the final over.

In Saturday's match against Milton in the Cambs League Junior Division One, Chatteris seemed to have set a good total of 143 on a testing wicket.

Fourteen-year-old Alex Platt put in an impressive performance to score a good 24.

However, the total wasn't quite enough and Milton reached their target despite Munns leading the bowling attack with 3-14.

It was a similar story against Wilbrahams in the Sunday Junior Cup when Dawson's excellent innings of 40 put Chatteris in to a good position.

The young Chatteris bowlers, Kurt Cunningham and Ant Palmer, took three batsmen in the opening two overs but Wilbrahams recovered and secured victory with only one ball to spare.
