MARCH Amateur Boxing Club’s first female fighter has seen her agonising wait to make history extended after two more opponents pulled out of joining her in the ring.

Vicky Larham was set to become the first woman to pull on the gloves for March ABC at their dinner show three weeks ago. But the 25-year-old was left frustrated when her opponent pulled out due to variations in weight.

Larham has now suffered two further setbacks, with scheduled fights in Essex having to be cancelled.

“The first girl hadn’t been training for a week,” said Larham. “She didn’t want to fight because she wasn’t prepared.”

Coaches then lined up another opponent for the March fighter, who also had to pull out at the last minute.

Larham said: “It’s very frustrating. I’m just trying to deal with it by training harder. I’m getting better all the time and I’ve just got to be patient.”

Larham’s next opportunity to make her historic debut bout will be in February. “Hopefully it will be fourth time lucky,” she added.
