The junior section of March Town Cricket Club has received a grant of more than £6,500 from a national programme that aims to promote opportunities for young people.The total sum of £6,600.84 was awarded by the Cambridgeshire Local Network Fund, which is administered by Cambridge ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) based in Littleport.This funding will provide numerous indoor winter nets and coaching sessions for junior boys and girls and a variety of new kit, including helmets, bats and pads.It will also cover the cost of a new synthetic wicket and a portable net cage to be used as outdoor nets during the summer cricket season.March Town Cricket Club, the first club in Cambridgeshire to receive the ECB (English Cricket Board) Clubmark accreditation, run three boys' teams at under-11, under-13 and under-15, and two girls' teams at under-13 and under-15.Club chairman Les Mills said: "It is good news for the young cricketers living in our area and we are very grateful to the Cambridge ACRE Local Network Fund for supporting our club."He added: "With the success of winning the Ashes so many youngsters wish to become the next 'Freddie' Flintoff or Charlotte Edwards."We wish to encourage them and provide facilities and coaches so they can enjoy cricket and play to the best of their ability.
