March and Wisbech seconds both suffer narrow defeats but Chatteris secure a confidence boosting win.

Captain John Wallis led the way with 58 as March posted 138-8. James Fountain (3-34) and Richard Green (3-33) both grabbed three wickets but the visitors won with 15 balls to spare.

There was better news for Chatteris, who beat Cambridge Granta II by 21 runs.

But, in Cambs Senior League Division Two, Wisbech II lost by one wicket to Cottenham.

They batted first at Harecroft Road and were languishing at 97-8 before Ivan Burgess (38) and Robbie Harris (33) got them up to 167.

In reply, Burgess did the damage (3-24) as Cottenham collapsed from 157-5 to 167-9 but they scrapped home.

In Cambs Junior League Division Two North, James Fraser just missed out on a century as Chatteris II beat Cambridge Granta III by 47 runs.

Fraser struck 99 but was caught on the boundary trying to bring the ton up in style.

Chasing 192, Granta III were dismissed for 144, with William Grant (3-26) and Harris (2-16) doing the damage.

Leverington are second in the league after beating Abbots Ripton by eight wickets but March III have still yet to win and remain bottom after losing by four wickets to Bluntisham II.

Rob Conyard (56 no) and James Stimpson (41) helped March III make 156-6 but Bluntisham II recovered from 62-4 to win by four wickets.

Shardul Brahmbhatt was in devastating form as Doddington crushed City of Ely II by nine wickets in Cambs Junior League Division Four North.

He took 4-39 as City of Ely II were dismissed for 194 then smashed 102 not out as Doddington chased it down with nine wickets in hand. Sallik Mahmood was unbeaten on 62.

JUNIOR CRICKET

Wimblington under-13s are sitting pretty at the top of the Cambridgeshire youth league with six wins out of six.

Against Chatteris, captain William Gowler scored his maiden century off just 72 balls in 66 minutes in Wimblington’s total of 156.

Coach David Pomfrett said: “I am the proudest coach in the county right now.”

Neale-Wade Boys under-15s beat Stanground Academy in the Fred Trueman League.

Rob Conyard took 3-6, Conner Porter 2-13 and Kieran Hallett 2-3 to bowl out Stanground to 55, which was polished off by Curtis Oldroyd and Will Curtis.

The under-13s and under-15s boys both won games against Cromwell Community College.
