TWO fearless Fenland competitors joined more than 100 Capri and Cortina banger racers from all over the world at Swaffham Raceway yesterday.

Outwell’s Joe Barrett, in a Mk 3 Capri, and Wisbech’s Kevin McClagish, in a Mk 5 Capri, raced around the circuit with reckless abandon in front of a large, appreciative crowd.

The day’s racing, which involved Capris and Cortinas, produced some spectacular action and high-impact crashes.

Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the Cortina, which is recognised as one of the most iconic banger racing cars.

The last Cortina rolled off the Dagenham production line on July 22 1982.
