Doddington United’s two year home league unbeaten streak was ended by title rivals Orwell on Saturday.

Paul Rowell was on target but the visitors leapfrogged Doddington into third in Kershaw Senior B with a 2-1 win.

However, Doddington, who will look to bounce back at basement side Swavesey Institute on Saturday, have games in hand on the sides above them.

It was a good day for second placed Outwell Swifts, who kept up the pressure on leaders Barrington with a thrilling 4-3 win over Bluntisham Rangers. Ben Jimson (2), Luke Plumb and Jonathan Secker got the goals.

Wimblington drew 1-1 at Sawston.

Doddington manager Ashley Taylor said: “We went in to the game in great form - having scored 17 goals and conceded three in our last five games.

“Without making excuses, we hadn’t played for four weeks while they had already had two games this year. That made a difference. In the second half, they dominated us.

“If you look at the table, we are still in with a good chance of getting promoted, but we must not put too much pressure on ourselves.

“We need to take things one game at a time. Swavesey took us to extra time earlier this season so we need to be careful.”
