The Hares are only a point ahead of Cornard, who have a game in hand, in the Thurlow Nunn First Division.

March have lost seven games in a row and picked up one point in 11 games since the start of 2014.

They dominated the bulk of the game but were made to pay for their wastefulness in front of goal by a side they beat 5-0 away from home on the opening day of the season.

Manager Paul Blanchflower said: “I thought we dominated a lot of the game but we could not put the ball in the net.

“Their first goal should never have stood. There was a coming together and our centre half was knocked down, which blocked off two players next to him, and their player was free to score.

“Going by the reaction of our players, they thought it should have been disallowed. If there was nothing wrong with the goal, they would not have complained.

“Cornard played well and their second goal came as we were pushing forward to try and get an equaliser.

“We had so many opportunities compared to against the teams further up the league. If we could finish we would have got points out of the game.”

March host high flying Halstead Town on Friday then travel to Downham Town on Monday before finishing their campaign at home to Long Melford next Saturday.

Blanchflower said: “The players were bitterly disappointed after the Cornard game so for me it was a case of trying to lift them up.

“Halstead are third in the league but we have got to try and lift ourselves for the game.”

March Town Ladies finished their first season with a 5-0 home loss to Downham Market in the S Tech League.

Manager Gary Davis said: “In our first season, the team finished mid-table which is an excellent achievement as most of the players didn’t even know each other in the summer.

“I’m hoping to add one or two players but if I can keep this squad together I will be really pleased.

“I am proud of all the players for their effort and commitment this season.”
