GALLERY: Title tilt starts with a stutter as Wisbech Town are held to 1-1 draw
WISBECH Town’s title dream got off to a stuttering start on Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Walsham-le-Willows.
The Fenmen enjoyed one of the best pre-season campaigns in their history, beating bitter rivals King’s Lynn Town 4-1 on their way to six victories.
But they failed to produce that free-scoring form at the weekend, as a stubborn Walsham side spoiled the party in front of 281 fans at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.
Wisbech, who were without the suspended Chris Bacon and Anthony Reeve, took the lead in the 19th minute, courtesy of an own goal.
But Walsham got their equaliser from a corner in the 52nd minute, securing a point that would certainly have been more popular in the away dressing room.

The result was one of six draws on the opening day of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.
Wisbech travel to Haverhill Rovers tomorrow night.
