Wisbech Town boss Dick Creasey got the response he demanded as the Fenmen squeezed Kirkley & Pakefield out of the FA Cup.

Creasey was furious after his side were thrashed 4-1 last time out by Thurnby Nirvana, calling it one of the worst Wisbech performance he’s seen in a long time.

So he’ll be as happy as anyone connected with the United Counties League (UCL) Premier Division outfit that they put in a better showing to win Saturday’s preliminary round encounter against their Thurlow Nunn Premier Division opponents.

Gary Williams struck a post inside 30 seconds for the Royals who started impressively after their long journey from Suffolk. Ten minutes later they got the reward their fine opening deserved when Kyle Baker slotted home a penalty after Jack Herbert had been hauled down inside the area.

Stuart Cobb equalised in the 29th minute before highly-rated hitman Josh Ford got his name on the scoresheet just three minutes later.

That’s how the scoreline remained for the next 45 minutes – even though both clubs had a man sent off. Nathan Horne was given his marching orders for a straight red while Kirkley’s Jordan Haverson was dismissed for two bookings. Wisbech pocketed £1,925 for their progress and will travel to Thurlow Nunn Premier Norwich United – who won 3-0 at Thetford Town on Friday evening.
