WISBECH racing driver Gareth Wright was the man to beat in the latest round of the 750 Motor Club's Stock Hatch season.

At Silverstone, the home of British motor racing, Wright put on a superb display to lead the field from the front and take the chequered flag in Sunday's final.

It was certainly a good weekend for Wright, who was the fastest driver in Saturday's qualifying session, therefore booking his place in pole position for the final race.

Bob Foreman also qualified well, lapping 1.5 seconds slower than Wright to qualify for 15th place on the grid.

Championship contender Maurice Hayden qualified 20th after a victory in Saturday's heat. Hayden had to drive well to move up from 13th on the grid and finish two seconds ahead of Christopher Petto.

But Sunday's final was dominated by Gareth Wright, who held first place from the start and took the chequered flag 1.43 seconds ahead of Ian Doughty. Hayden recovered from a smash to finish 14th, Foreman 18th and Robbie Boon 25th.

Silverstone also proved to be a great meeting for young SaxMax driver Liam McMillan.

Unbeaten McMillan, 16, extended his lead at the top of the championship with another victory on

Sunday but he was pushed hard by the chasing pack.

Liam booked his place on pole position for Sunday's final thanks to the fastest lap in qualifying, but he was only 0.16 seconds ahead of Daniel Brown.

In an exciting final race, Liam was under continual pressure from Brown but the Wisbech driver held on to first place throughout and finished just 0.31 seconds ahead of his rival.
