Boss Brett Whaley has urged March Town to be more ruthless in both boxes.
The Hares have picked up just one point from their first two games of the new Thurlow Nunn League First Division North season.
That arrived last Saturday when they drew 1-1 with Needham Market Reserves at the GER when a number of missed chances cost them victory.
March fell behind to against the run of play 10 minutes into the second half, but levelled courtesy of a second goal in as many games from Toby Allen, who also struck in the season-opening 2-1 home defeat to King’s Lynn Town Reserves 10 days ago.
Allen rifled in from the edge of the box after a cross from Jack Rawson had been half-cleared into his path.
March then pushed for a late winner and had the ball in the net again only to see a Craig Gillies header ruled out after the referee spotted an infringement by another Hares man.
Gillies also headed another opportunity wide and fellow frontman Rob Conyard saw an effort blocked by a defender.
Their final chance to snatch victory fell to Rawson in the dying moments but he slammed a Casey Logan cross over the bar.
“It was another case of us producing a decent performance without quite getting the result we wanted,” said Whaley.
“We had four or five chances that we really ought to have taken and the failure to do that ended up costing us a win. We’re disappointed to drop points in a game we dominated for long periods.
“August was always going to be a tough month with so many new players settling in and also working on a new way of playing.
“We would be worried if we had only picked up one point and played badly, but that’s not the case.
“We just need to be a bit more clinical in front of goal and also look to tighten up a little bit defensively.”
March hit the road for the first time this season this Saturday when travelling to Debenham LC, 3pm.
Whaley is expecting a tough test against a team who beat the Hares at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
“We were beaten 3-1 there on the final day of last season,” added Whaley. “It’s a difficult place to go and they are a physical side, but I feel we are better equipped to deal with that now.
“They lost their first couple of games but then won at Wisbech St Mary, who had a decent start.
“You can’t read too much into form at such an early stage of the season. We just need to focus on our own performances and making sure we do more good things than bad things.”
March have brought in teenage midfielder Dylan Kilford from Peterborough Sports, but defender Stu Porter and wideman Gary Smith have left to return to former club Chatteris.
