FIVE young archers from Parkfield, Wimblington, converged on The National Sports Centre at Lilleshall, Shropshire on Saturday July 10th to take part in the Junior National Outdoor Archery Championships.

The young competitors participated alongside 235 others in the Junior FITA Star and Metric rounds taking over 9 hours to complete in beautiful sunshine. On Sunday it was the Bristol rounds under GNAS rules for the title of Junior National Outdoor Champion, but this time in very high blustery winds. For safety reasons the competition was shorted from Bristol 12 dozen rounds to Western 8 dozen rounds.

As a result of the different governing bodies’ age rules, 18 year old Peter Fletcher, was only able to compete on Saturday where he took 1st place in the Gents FITA’s Longbow section.

The other Longbow entry from the club, Harry Silvester, became National Champion in his age group on both days. On Saturday, in Metric 3 he won the Longbow Trophy and on Sunday in Short Western he won the GNAS Quiver Trophy.

Other members taking part were Matthew Charter in his first National Outdoor Championship scoring personal best’s on both days, with scores of 1000 and 545 respectively. Michael Fletcher also scored personal best’s on both days with 769 and 425 and Andrew Charter scored 557 on Saturday and a personal best of 977 Sunday.
