Former March Town cricketers took a trip down memory lane by holding a reunion for some of the players who took part in one of the town’s most well-remembered matches.
March Town hosted Essex CCC 30 years ago this year for the Keith Pont benefit match, and club secretary Stephen Wallis marked the occasion by gathering together a group of March players who donned their whites against the county giants three decades ago for a commemorative picture.
Thousands of spectators flocked to The Avenue for the match on September 9 1986 to take in the action which involved former England captain Keith Fletcher and stars John Lever, Derek Pringle, Neil Foster, John Childs and John Stephenson.
Spectators were treated to 555 runs, 63 boundaries and 12 wickets as Essex ran out as winners.
