It’s been 10 months since he last stepped into the ring, but Jordan Gill says he is in the shape of his life as he prepares for his biggest fight to date.
The Chatteris puncher, 22, will showcase his skills on the undercard of Chris Eubank Jnr’s IBO super-middleweight showdown with Renold Quinlan on February 4 – the first show on ITV’s new pay-per-view channel, ITV Box Office.
Gill has been out of action since his victory over Chris Adaway back in March, and, once confirmed, is expected to reignite his blossoming career with his toughest test so far – a clash with former Southern Area featherweight champion, Jamie Speight (14-10).
“It’s been a bit of a rush over the last few months,” Gill admitted.
“It’s the first show of the pay-per-view format and I’m very excited to be involved.
“It’s a massive line-up and a really good show, and I can’t wait to show everyone what I can do.
“Jamie Speight is a good fighter and has a very good record. He’s definitely my hardest fight on paper but I’m relishing the challenge and can’t wait to get back into the ring.”
‘The Thrill’ has been keeping himself busy during his absence from the ring; sparring with IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby, stablemate Kid Galahad and the unbeaten Gavin McDonnell, and insists that ring rust will not be an issue when he returns in a fortnight.
“I’ve not had a day out of the gym,” he said.
“I’ve improved massively and developed hugely as an athlete. I’m looking in tip-top shape and I feel the best I have ever felt.
“For the last year I have been training so hard and I can’t wait to see the results in the ring.”
Gill will gun for his 17th consecutive win at London’s Olympia – a venue he has yet to experience – and says he is looking forward to seeing his faithful band of supporters join him in the capital for his first outing in what promises to be an eventful year.
He said: “I’m hoping we can get a couple of hundred down from Fenland for the fight.
“I always have excellent support and the tickets have been selling really well.
“The Olympia is a great venue in a great part of the world and I’m really excited to be part of ITV’s new venture.
“My main goal is to be in more regular fights. It’s the start of an exciting year for me and I’m sure it’s all going to take off from here.”
