A GOOD performance in the field couldn't make up for a disappointing batting display from Wisbech I in their Tucker League match at home to Burwell on Saturday.

Wisbech steadied the ship after the early dismissal of Dan Mason but the efforts of Chris Clark (23), Gary Freear (28) and James Williams (36) were unmatched by the lower order and the home team collapsed to 146 all out from 41.2 overs. The Wisbech bowlers did rally and fine bowling from James Williams (3-37) and Craig Johnson (3-31) was matched by good work from the fielders.

Once early wickets had fallen the visitors experienced a similar collapse, but the tail-enders did just enough to pass Wisbech's score with one wicket in hand.

The first team batsmen benefited from a night's rest however, and they recorded a good victory at Perkins in the Rutland League on Sunday.

The Wisbech bowlers once again showed good form to limit the home side to 195 all out from 44.2 overs. Johnson (3-27) picked up his second three-wicket haul of the weekend and Chris Clark (3-46) also proved to be a major threat with the ball.

The result was never in doubt as David Wood (78) and James Staveley (53) put on 145 for the first wicket and the visitors eventually reached their target with six wickets intact.

The young second team were dominant in their Hunts Division Two match at Buckden on Saturday and they recorded a comfortable nine-wicket win.

An excellent bowling display from the team saw Orlando Prestidge (3-13), John Strickle (2-46), Lyndon Waters (2-6) and Paul Strickle (3-5) all return impressive figures as Buckden were dismissed for just 74 after 26.4 overs.

Wisbech had no trouble getting the runs they needed and James Staveley (31 not out) and Keith Jakings (18 not out) took the visitors to victory after 16 overs.

The second team were denied the possibility of a Sunday victory when rain brought an early end to the Fenland League match at Doddington.

The heavens opened just as Wisbech looked to be setting a good score and the efforts of Solomon Prestidge (42), Scott Wylie (30), Ryan van Waterschoot (29), Sam Darlow (26) and Sam Albutt (21) had steered the visitors to 187-6 when the match was abandoned.

Wisbech III looked set for victory in West Norfolk Division Four on Saturday when they bowled out visitors Gayton for 112.

Martin Parrin (4-15) led the way with the ball and John Mallett (3-15), Matthew Duff (2-39) also caused problems as the Gayton innings ended in 42 overs.

But a collapse from the Wisbech batting order, in which Adi Peck (24) was the only player to reach double figures, resulted in the home side reaching just 56 runs.
