WELL, the hot weather is set to continue this weekend and I hope that the Fenland lakes continue to show the sport they have offered recently.

Bumper pleasure catches have been recorded and 100lb nets were common at the Magpie Lake, Pidley, during the week.

However, the Mill View Club found the going tough on Sunday and Martin Kirk only needed 49-02 to take top spot in the match.

The old lake known as the Rook is doing well and a lot of fish are being taken off the top with bread or dog biscuit as bait.

Over at Doddington's Fields End Water, Tony Moll almost broke the 100lb barrier in the Ace Angling Club match on Sunday and the old lake is fishing well, particularly in the evenings, when floating bait again seems to do the trick.

The Station Hotel team, from March, won the fourth round of the Pub Crawl Challenge last week and they are now three points ahead of the Five Alls, Benwick, going in to the final round.

I took the individual honours with 23-05 of carp to 2lb, all of which were taken using pellet on the hook.

On the rivers, the March Angling Club fished their Sunday morning match on the Old Nene, above the bypass bridge, and again I came out on top with 8lb of rudd and skimmer bream.

Most of the fish were taken on maggot but for a change, I caught the majority with rod and line rather than on the pole.

The March club were on the same stretch of water for their evening match last Tuesday and Rob Graves won with a total of 4-08.

The following day, it was the turn of the juniors and their match was won by Daniel Hall's 2-12.

Manea Angling Club have been fishing all their matches on the River Delph, at Welches Dam, where they have been able to take advantage of the shade underneath the big willow trees.

Daniel Allen was the winner of last Wednesday's match after he hooked 4-08 of small roach and skimmers, while Steve Newell won the Sunday match with a total of 5-20.

It is worth noting that you must be a member of the Manea Club to fish this stretch of water.

Elsewhere, the middle level is fishing well and bream and roach are just beginning to feed on hemp and tares.

The best areas are crooked chimney and the Magdalene Road bridge, both of which are run by King's Lynn and day tickets can be purchased on the bank.

On the Twenty Foot, an early start is still a good idea if you are looking for bream during this hot spell.

I watched Jeff Gray netting bream on hemp at Sheppersons Bridge during the day last Tuesday. I think that hemp should produce some nice fish on any of the rivers and drains now, so it is worth giving it a go.

Both the Forty Foot and Sixteen Foot are producing plenty of skimmer but remember to look out for coloured water.
