Boss Ashley Taylor says his Chatteris Town side are underachieving this season following their thrilling 3-3 draw at Cambridge City Reserves on Saturday.

The Lilies spurned a 2-1 lead – established through Scott Callaghan’s long-range strike and a Ben Matthews penalty – to go behind 3-2 to the city side.

Gary Smith spared the Lilies’ blushes late on after converting a rebounded shot, but Taylor believes it was a case of two points dropped, rather than one gained.

“We played way below the level that I expect from us,” he admitted.

“Too many players unfortunately had an off day and we have dropped two points.

“In our last four games we have 10 points from an available 12 so you would think I would be happy but we set ourselves high standards, so it should really be 12 from 12. We’re definitely capable of that.”

The Lilies hit the road again this Saturday – their fourth of seven straight away trips – with a visit to Linton Granta (3pm).

The village side are second-from-bottom in the Kershaw Premier Division standings having experienced defeat in half of their matches so far – but they did hammer Chatteris’ promotion rivals Lakenheath 5-1 earlier in the campaign.

“We now have three very tough away games starting with Linton this Saturday but it’s a game we will be ready for and I know the players will want to put in a better performance than what we did on Saturday,” Taylor added.

Chatteris are currently in third place, eight points behind West Wratting, who have won six of their seven games.

Elsewhere, Chatteris’ other sides were also in action in the Cambs League.

The Lilies’ reserves were sent to their first defeat of the season; a narrow 2-1 loss to Alconbury. Brandon Ransome scored for Chatteris, who are now fourth in the MPG 1A standings.

Chatteris Town A were also on the losing side in the MPG 4B Division, going down 4-1 to Wimblington Reserves – their second defeat in as many games.

They will hope for a first win of the season on Saturday against Marchester United in the Lower Junior Challenge Cup.
