More than 300 locals watched 10 bouts featuring fighters from as far from Nottingham go head-to-head.

Shaun Simpson was first through the ropes for March and turned in a mature performance to seal a unanimous decision victory over Hornchurch fighter, Dean Jackson.

Jackson raced out the blocks in the opening round but Simpson bided his time before going on to control the fight in the latter rounds.

Local boxer Luke McVicar made his ring return after a six-year absence, and he impressed in his bout with Jelisejs Zaiceus.

McVicar initially showed some ring rust but soon shook it off and was crowned the night’s boxer of the year by the show’s judges.

Youngster Connor Brazil was also in action, boxing well in his clash with Abdul Raheem Ali of the Jawaid Khaliq Boxing Academy in Nottingham and 12-year-old Mark Smith also took to the ring but just missed out in his meeting with Denaeo George of the City of Leicester BC. Mark was later crowned the club’s boxer of the year.

Coach, Dave Cole said: “Mark’s fight was the best of the night technically.

“Both boys were very impressive and their technical skills were good. Mark put in a gutsy performance and showed a lot of heart.”

Quenton Doran made his March debut in the show, narrowly losing to Shaun McDonagh of Leicester.

The 11-year-old gave a good account of himself and will look to bounce back on Sunday when he takes part in his second fight.

“It was an excellent night with some really good bouts,” Cole added.

“The town always comes out in force to support us and last week was no different. We sold out completely and everyone enjoyed the night.”
