March Town recovered from a disastrous start to secure a draw against fellow Tucker Gardner league strugglers Waresley.

The hosts were languishing on 33-4, before skipper Jody Betts (28) and Tyler Phillips (24) steadied the ship.

Teenager Josh Fox cut lose at No8 in an entertaining 20, while Andy Wright (16) chipped in, as March reached 156 all out.

Waresley looked on course for the win at 67-1. Then, Callum Young and Kiwi Ash Vodnala combined to get the run rate down, with Young taking 2-33 and the off-spinner returning figures of 12-6-16-3.

Phillips (2-26) picked up his second wicket towards the end, but it was too late to orchestrate a victory, as Waresley closed on 146-8, having batted the three extra overs March conceded.

March picked up 12 points. With seven games remaining, they are 10th out of 12 teams, 20 points ahead of Saffron Walden (who occupy the first relegation spot). Up next is a home game with Ramsey.

March II look set for relegation from CCA Senior League Division 1 after bottom club Buntingford won their first game of the season.

On a wet, uncovered wicket, March were bowled out for 133 in the final over. Opening batsman Steve Hinson top-scored with 41, followed by Jacob Gray with 20.

Buntingford didn’t hang around in reply and smashed 137-3 off just 26 overs. Stuart Arnold (1-10), Richard Green (1-30) and James Beresford (1-39) were the wicket-takers.

March III chalked up back-to-back CCA Junior League Division 3N victories against Haddenham, following a three wicket success at Doddington.

The visitors batted first, with Geoff Buck smashing a dozen sixes in a glorious knock of 152. That enabled his team to post a total of 218-7, despite numerous dropped catches.

Charlie Revell took 2-44, Ryan Wright 2-54, Rob Conyard 1-53 and Will Curtis 1-24 from his 10 overs.

In reply Curtis Oldroyd (24) got March off to a solid start before a third wicket stand of 65 between Conyard and skipper Anthony Henson.

The teenager hit eight boundaries in his 68, while Henson was one boundary behind for his 45.

There were other contributions from Andrew Stone (28) and Curtis (27no), as the 219-7 came up after 36.3 overs.

March IV continued their winning form as they beat Over II in the tightly contested CCA Junior League Division 5N match.

Veteran opening batsman Dennis Furnell scored 47, Curtis Oldroyd 41 and captain Glenn Hulley 29 not out as March IV finished on 199-9 off their 40 overs.

In the Over II innings, Hulley then took 3-30 off his seven overs, along with James Mortlock who bowled well returning figures of 1-25 off 10 overs. Over II finished on 177-6 at the end of their 40 overs.
