March Town’s four game winning streak came to an emphatic end against Wisbech Town at Harecroft Road on Saturday.
They went in to the game brimming with confidence after beating their Fenland rivals two weeks ago in a Jaidka Cup 20/20 tussle but the hosts proved far too strong this time round, winning by 125 runs.
Callum Young was the pick of March’s bowlers with 4-42 (he has taken 16 Wisbech wickets in his last three games against them) but Gary Freear’s explosive 82 helped Wisbech post a competitive 238-6.
March’s chase got off to the worst possible start - David Hodson was bowled by Sam Rippington first ball, and things didn’t get any better.
Three of the top five got ducks and seven March batsmen were dismissed for single figure scores as March were skittled for 113.

Aussie Stephen Shaw top-scored with 41, with captain and number 11 Chris Ringham’s unbeaten 17 the next best score.
The loss leaves March sixth in the Tucker Gardner League, one place and 10 points above Waresley, who they play on their patch on Saturday.

There was better news on Sunday as one of the club’s most promising young batsmen made his mark in March II’s 58 run win over the City of Ely in the Fenland Trophy.
Fifteen-year-old Rob Conyard chalked up 72 not out, his highest score in adult cricket, and vice-captain Stephen Wallis made 59 before retiring hurt as March II posted 174-3 at The Avenue.
Conyard’s innings included six boundaries, with two mighty sixes over square leg.
Sam Mason took the first three wickets to leave Ely reeling at 3-3.
The visitors never recovered - skipper Jacob Gray took 5-24, Mason finished with figures of 3-22 and Conyard, not satisfied with his batting exploits, snaffled two wickets for four runs with his leg spin as Ely were 116 all out.
