There may be new managerial blood at March Town, but fortunes on the pitch remained the same on Tuesday night as the Hares fell at the first hurdle in the First Division KO Cup.

A late Adam Conyard header was the only highlight for March as they were swept aside 3-1 by King’s Lynn Town Reserves in Mel Mattless’ first match in charge.

The new boss’ first line-up included new recruits Joel Mattless, Jack Brand and Neil Goodbourn, but they failed to fire their new club to a first victory since October 1.

Mattless said: “We worked hard but gave the ball away quite a bit. We matched them and gave 110 per cent effort, which is the main positive we’ll take from the game.

“The three new lads also played well, as did young Casey Logan.”

Mattless now has the opportunity to clinch his first win as manager against Woodbridge Town this Saturday (3pm KO), but knows the Suffolk outfit will be no pushover.

“It’s another tough game,” he said. “It’s a baptism of fire for me but we’ll try our best to get a positive result.”
