March Town defied rain, hail and a top-order batting collapse to bounce back and take victory over Sawston CC by 30 runs in the opening Tucker Gardner Division Two fixture.

Hero of the day was number eight batsman Toby Nulty, who helped rescue the 50-5 start with a highly competent 56 from the 198 all out total against visitors Sawston.

Vice-skipper James Harradine also made a well-struck 42, with Andrew Wright chipping in with 21, during a game reduced by four overs per side.

Australian Sam Freedman continued his great start with the ball, as he picked up 3-47, with Ant Palmer matching his wicket tally for 34 runs, as Sawston were dismissed in 36.3 overs.

March will look to add to their winning start when they host Huntingdon and District CC next Saturday at 12.30pm.
