March Town captain Chris Ringham said he was disappointed with his side’s performance in their six wicket loss at Histon in the opening Tucker Gardner League fixture of the season.

The visitors got off to the worst possible start, losing newcomer Chris Budd for a duck, and soon found themselves 59-5.

James Harradine’s 89 steered March to a competitive 193 all out but Histon chased the total down in 36 overs.

Ringham said: “Considering how well we played in the friendlies it was a massive disappointment.

“We were right on the back foot at 60-5 but James Harradine came in and dug us out of a massive hole, giving us something to bowl at.

“But, with the exception of Tyler Phillips (1-23), no one bowled well. We were totally outplayed.”

Ringham is confident his side will bounce back against highly rated Ramsey, who kicked off their campaign with a five wicket win over Foxton/Babraham.

He said: “They are a good side and we are expecting a tough game but we are back on our own patch with a bigger outfield and we have a good recent record against them.”

Captain Stuart Mills and Callum Young showed remarkable composure to help the Sunday XI bounce back from the previous week’s hammering by Wisbech with a miraculous one run win over Barnack in the Rutland League.

March batted first and posted 178-7 but Barnack looked to be cruising to victory at 169-3.

But the hosts lost their last seven wickets for eight runs, with their final four wickets falling on 177.

With just two runs to win Mills and Young reeled off a wicket maiden apiece, before Mills came back with a dot ball and two wickets in two balls for an amazing victory.

Mills finished with 3-34, Young 3-35 and Aussie left-arm spinner Stephen Shaw 4-52.

March II beat City of Ely by 96 runs in a friendly.

Jody Betts (64), Toby Nulty (48) and James Fountain (41 not out) helped March post 252-8.

In reply, Nathan Oliver took 3-20 and Stuart Arnold and Joshua Fox chipped in with two wickets each as Ely were bowled out for 156.
