A second half breakaway goal deprived March Town United of a share of the spoils in their Thurlow Nunn First Division opener.
The first half was an even affair, with Matt Barber forcing the Halstead keeper into a good save.
Substitute Richard Abbott got Halstead’s goal.
The Hares will look to bounce back at Diss Town on Saturday.
