March Town United, 3rd, set for mouthwatering clash with table-topping Thetford Town

HIGH-FLYING March Town United face their toughest league test of the season on Saturday against a side who have won all of their 11 matches.

Brett Whaley has revolutionised the Hares on his return to the GER taking his side to the dizzy heights of third in the table.

But his outfit’s promotion-chasing credentials will be severely tested when table-topping Thetford Town arrive in March for the mouthwatering clash.

Whaley said: “This is the biggest league test of our season because they’ll be extremely confident.

“It’s not about stopping their run or concentrating too much on them - it’s about focusing on what we do best.

“Winning 11 games in a row is no mean feat but we won’t be giving them too much respect. There’s no pressure on us because perhaps we’re overachieving.

“We’ve done a good job so far but this is a test to see if we can beat the best sides in the league.”

Third-placed March blew Swaffham Town away on Saturday scoring four goals in 20 rampant minutes to secure a deserved 5-1 win.

Stu Anderson (2), Ondre Odain, Luke Pepper and Ash Brand all netted for the in-form Hares who sit third having scored 13 goals during three consecutive victories.

Whaley said: “We played pretty well first half but for 35 minutes after the break we absolutely blew them away.

“It’s the best we’ve played and if we performed like that for 90 minutes I believe we would beat any side in this league because we were so clinical.

“I’m really excited about Saturday. How many times have there been top of the table clashes at March?

“I’ve not been involved in too many during my spells at the GER so I can’t wait.”
