A small contingent from Fenland Running Club made the long journey to Edinburgh to take part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival on Sunday.

Maire Irlam took part in the half marathon with 9,652 runners and Martin Jennings, Leanne Rickett, Tracy Veenendaal and Julie Garner all ran the full marathon with 8,620 runners.

The half marathon started some two hours before the full race and although all competitors were drenched by rain for 15 minutes before the start racing conditions throughout the race itself were ideal. Irlam finished 1,009th in a time of 1hr 39min 20sec and was sixth in her age category. The marathon started in ideal conditions but some runners received a drenching some three hours into the race. Martin Jennings finished first for Fenland before the rain came down in a big personal best time of 3hr 6min 30sec. Leanne Rickett also ran a PB finishing in 3hr 52min 11sec.Tracy Veenendaal had a great race and also finished with a PB in a time of 4hr 32min 52sec. Sadly, Julie Garner suffered from 20 miles on and having met all her targets previously she eventually came home in 5hr 22min 9sec.
