READERS of the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard can make their votes count in this year's Living Sport Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Sports Awards.
Archant, the parent company of the Cambs Times and Wisbech Standard, has teamed-up with Living Sport and BBC Radio Cambridgeshire to recognise sporting excellence at all levels in 2007.
Nominations can now be submitted in a number of categories including the new Archant Young Community Volunteer of the Year award.
The seven categories in this year's awards are:
Archant Young Community Volunteer
This award is for an individual aged under-18 on September 30 2007, who has given up a substantial amount of time to volunteer in local sport in any capacity.
The Manchetts Sports Personality Award
An individual who has made great progress and achieved outstanding success in their sport or made a big difference to a team. Nominees must be aged 18 or over on July 31 2007.
This award is for a volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport in any way.
The Lakeside Lodge Young Sports Personality Award
An individual, under the age of 18 on July 31 2007, who has made great progress and shows much potential for the future.
The Ridgeons Club of the Year
To reward a local club for their hard work and continued efforts in developing a structure to encourage members of the community into their sport, as well as achieving sporting success in the past 12 months.
Coach of the Year
A coach who is committed to providing the highest standard of coaching to their performers and to helping other coaches to develop, and who holds a current, recognised coaching qualification.
Sports Performer with a Disability
A person who has made a significant contribution, impact or improvement in their development as a disabled sports player/athlete.
A panel of judges from Living Sport, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire and Archant will choose the winners, who will receive their award in a special ceremony to be held at Comberton Performance Centre on Thursday, November 1 2007.
All individual winners will receive a £100 grant towards their development, a trophy and sports kit. The Club of the Year winner will receive a £200 grant towards development and a trophy.
The winners in all categories, except Archant Young Community Volunteer and Sports Performer with a Disability, are automatically entered into nominations for the same category at the BBC East Region Sports Awards.
And those voted as winners in the Sports Personality and Unsung Hero categories at the regional event will then be invited to London to attend the televised, national BBC Sports Awards.
