Brett Whaley began his third reign as March Town manager by overseeing a terrific 0-0 draw with league leaders Woodbridge Town.
The Hares dug deep to prevent their table-topping visitors from taking all three points from last Saturday’s Thurlow Nunn League First Division clash at the GER and fully deserved their share of the spoils.
The hosts’ best chance to break the deadlock fell to Luke Pepper, just before the hour mark, but he couldn’t keep his headed effort down after an excellent ball in by Jack Rawson.
Former Ipswich Town midfielder Carlos Edwards created the visitors’ best opportunity to take the lead, but David Beeny did well to deny the Trinidad and Tobago international.
Whaley was delighted with the character his side showed and is calling on them to build on a fine result and positive performance.
“I thought we were excellent,” said Whaley, who returned to the club last week to replace Mel Mattless as manager. “We were solid at the back and everyone did their job.
“We all know what Woodbridge can do - that’s why they are sitting top of the table. There aren’t a lot of sides who have taken points off them this season, so it’s a really good result.

“The boys showed great character throughout, they never gave in and kept focused, which earned us the point. Woodbridge had good spells but didn’t batter us by any means - I thought it was a fair result.
“Now we need to build on last Saturday going forward. It shows what we can do and sends out a strong message.
“The whole team put in a real shift in. If we can recreate it we will soon get more points on the board and climb the table.”
The Hares have a Saturday off with the Thurlow Nunn League calling off all weekend games. They were due to go to Debenham LC.
