Manager Brett Whaley has called for March Town to add attacking quality to their solid defensive foundations.

Whaley saw an unbeaten start to his third reign as Hares chief continue when they battled out a 1-1 draw against Norwich CBS in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division last night.

The visitors hit the front early on at the GER – the first goal March have conceded since the return of Whaley - but an own goal hauled the hosts level midway through the second half. The best chance to claim victory fell to March, but Toby Allen blazed over after bursting into the box.

Whaley said: “It was a fairly even game and a draw was probably the right results overall.

“We were very disappointed to concede in the manner we did. Norwich CBS are a big side who focus heavily on set pieces and we didn’t deal with them particularly well.

“That’s something we’ll look to address, but the boys again responded brilliantly to what was asked of them at half-time

“We showed a lot more urgency going forward and that led to us getting ourselves level.

“It keeps our unbeaten run going and there have been some real positives to take from the last three games.

“We finished the match on Tuesday with four teenagers on the pitch and that highlights the young talent coming through at the club.”

But Whaley, who handed a debut to new signing Stu Porter in midweek, is anxious to see his side pose more of a threat.

That will form part of their gameplan for a long trip to Leiston Reserves tomorrow, 3pm – the first away game since Whaley succeeded Mel Mattless in the hotseat.

He added: “The fact it’s an away game presents us with a different challenge after three home fixtures in a row.

“It’s also against a team just above us in the table so it’s important we pick up points if at all possible.

“Only conceding one goal in three games is pleasing and we don’t want to undo the good work we’ve done in that respect.

“But we’re not having enough spells of possession and we’re not creating enough chances, so the focus will be on what we do when going forward.”

Midfielder Jack Rawson returns after being away for the Norwich CBS game, but March have missed out on a midfield target.

Ben Panting has chosen to stay at Huntingdon for the rest of the season.
