ELY’S Olympic javelin hopeful Goldie Sayers has vowed to compete at the upcoming games despite tearing a ligament in her elbow.
Competing at Crystal Palace just a fortnight ago, the 30-year-old broke her own British record and beat a world-class field to win the Diamond League athletics event.
During her fourth throw however, Sayers felt a twinge in her elbow and a subsequent scan revealed that she had torn a ligament.
Though she is said to have “responded very well to treatment” and resumed training, the former Ely star will be unable to use painkillers during her event for fear of affecting her throw.
According to report, Sayers has been experimenting with various arm strappings to help her manage the pain and has also consulted with javelin veteran Steve Backley
