A POLICEMAN who is recovering from breast cancer is set to host a darts competition in March to help raise awareness of the disease.

Mark Cross realised a dream last month when he took to the Alexandra Palace to compete in the inaugural Ladbrokes Lads Cup darts competition with the March team he has been playing with for 27 years.

But the 42-year-old, who had his left breast removed in October 2009, has now decided to host his own competition at the more humble surroundings of the GER Sports Club. All money raised will be donated to the Oncology Department at Peterborough City Hospital.

He said: “I want to take this opportunity to raise the awareness of the disease in men and help those that are not as fortunate as myself.

“Emphasis will be on enjoying the darts competitions on the day and all proceeds will be going to the specific department at Peterborough Hospital whose treatment, care and consideration cannot be questioned.”

The tournament will take place on Saturday February 19 from 11.30am and will include an auction as well as competitions in cricket triples, pairs, singles and a high score board.

The entry fee will be 5 and trophies will be awarded to all winners and runners up on the day.
