WITH the evenings turning darker I fear that summer is over but I hope I am wrong.

The Manea and District Angling Club match was fished just downstream of Bedlam Bridge, on the Sixteen Foot, on Sunday and it was the end pegs that produced the top places.

Paul Ringham, on peg 12, won with a catch of 16lb that included three four-pound bream and some skimmer bream. Bob Graves, on peg one, fished chopped worm all day and netted 7lb of perch and skimmers.

The Twenty Foot is still producing good sport and the Sheppersons Bridge area is the place to be. It was here that Wayne Harvey and his dad fished a night session on Saturday and landed more than 100lb of tench and bream.

Roach have started to feed and hemp and tares work well in most areas.

The 100 Foot drain, at Mepal, is also worth a visit. Me and Shaun Strachan were there last Tuesday and we both netted double-figure catches of roach and dace.

The Manea Club were on the River Delph on Sunday and Billy Savage included a 5-02 bream in his winning catch of 8-11. On Sunday, the club travel to March to fish the Twenty Foot at Sheppersons Bridge. The draw for the match will be at 7am.

On the lakes, The Pool, at Fieldsend Water, Doddington, is returning good weights and The Station Hotel, March won the Pub Crawl Challenge with a win in the final round of the competition on Saturday.

The Station's Paul Ringham (69-15) and Alan Owen (49-12) took the top two places to push last year's winners The Five Alls, Benwick, in to second place.

The Old Lake on this complex is still in top form and two visiting anglers from Peterborough landed more than 30 double-figure carp on Saturday.

The Mill View Angling Club travelled to Melton Mowbray on Sunday and shop assistant Alex Bates won with 41lb, ahead of shop manager Pete Rayner.

All three lakes at Kingsland Reservoir are fishing well and both Karl Cook and Ryan Diggle both passed the 100lb barrier on the big lake, last week and all fish were taken on floating bait.

There were also big weights on the small lake on Sunday when 80lb was needed to take a top four place in a 12 peg match.

The Silver Fish Lake is in form and that's good news for the Wimblington Angling Club, who will be fishing against The Potters Group, from Ely, at the weekend. To check on the team call Pete Fulcher on 01354 740912.
