MARCH rower Simon Walshe helped his Bath University crew to a third place finish and cash prize in the Concept2 Freshers Challenge.
Walshe, 19, began rowing only last September, but his first season on the water has ended in fine style.
The Bath crew, pictured with Simon second from the back, were awarded £250 and bronze medals after a third place finish in the final 500m sprint of the competition.
Walshe said: "We are quite pleased with our performance in the competition, particularly given our lack of experience.
"I will be working on maintaining my fitness during the summer before preparing to compete in the indoor championships again."
After taking up the sport, Walshe rowed his way into the Bath University team for last year's indoor championships and finished in the top half of the best young rowers in the country.
