BEARS captain James Griffin pointed out that "training wins matches" following his side's disappointing home defeat to Aylestone on Saturday.
The visitors' pack dominated the game and allowed their backs to make smart runs that kept the Bears on the back foot throughout.
It was the Bears who opened the scoring thanks to a penalty from Andy Larham but Athletic hit back with two quick tries.
Another Larham penalty put the Bears back in the game but once again, the visitors touched down to go 17-6 up at the break.
Athletic continued to dominate in the second half, scoring another three tries. The high point for the home side was a good debut try from Matt Day midway through the half.
Tomorrow (Saturday), both first and second teams are in action. Before kick-off, there will be an extraordinary general meeting for all club members in the clubhouse at 11am.
The Bears first team will then travel to Deeping for a league match while the seconds host Deeping II.
All players are requested to attend training on Wednesday evenings at the sportsfield from 7pm.
