March Bears launched their quest for more glory in terrific style last Saturday.
The Eastern Counties Greene King Division Two West champions dished out a 77-7 drubbing to St Ives 2nds in their opening Cambridgeshire County Cup clash.
Bears tucked into a feast of 13 tries with skipper James Knight and Jonathan Beavis both claiming hat-tricks.
Dan Ryan, Jason Rainbow, Will Bure, Stewart Rigby, Gareth Edward, Aaron Boxall and Ed Cribbons all added a try apiece while Connor Porter sent over six successful conversions.
Skipper Knight hailed his side’s dominant display. He said: “I asked the boys for a big performance and that’s exactly what I got from each and every one of them.
“I wanted the game out of sight before half time, and again the boys delivered.”
Bears will now attempt to complete a perfect league campaign tomorrow when entertaining bottom side Sawston in their final fixture.
The title-winners have won all nine previous league outings and Knight is backing his men to make it a full set of successes.
He added: “I am really confident going into the Swaston game. It has been an unbelievable season for us and I can’t wait for tomorrow now.
“We are on verge of doing something that doesn’t happen very often and full credit to the lads for making it possible.
“They have been ruthless throughout the year and just kept going and going, I am really proud of them for that.
“We still have a job to do against Swaston. They may be struggling but we will still show them the respect they deserve and treat them game how it should be treated.
“We will be taking nothing for granted, we will have to work hard to win the game and then we can enjoy it.
“The team spirit at the club if fantastic and has really helped us to achieve what we have this year. The boys really do give their all for each other.”
