London North East FourBraintree 23 Wisbech 8WISBECH are one of only two sides to beat league leaders Braintree this season, but they were unable to complete the double on Saturday. It was always going to be tough for Wisbech and the home backs immediately forced them on to the back foot.Braintree opened the scoring with a try on 10 minutes but the visitors bounced back and Luke Feaviour touched down, despite the ball appearing to be knocked on.Wisbech were unable to take advantage of their lucky break and the home side scored a try in the corner shortly before the break. The visitors came out strongly in the second half but Braintree defended their lines and Andy Claydon's penalty proved to be Wisbech's final score of the match. The home side scored a third try and kicked two penalties to secure victory and remain top of the league.Wisbech have three league games remaining, the first of which is a home match against Basildon tomorrow (Saturday). Kick-off is at 3pm.March Bears 0 Kempston 56FACING promotion-chasing Kempston, the Bears were always going to find this match a difficult one.On two of their previous three encounters, Kempston had scored more than 100 points but the home side showed more resilience this time. The Bears' forwards controlled the early exchanges and made life difficult for the much heavier Kempston pack. However, an intercepted pass led to Kempston breaking the deadlock with an unconverted try after 20 minutes.March still played with confidence and elected to run a penalty on the visitors' 22 rather than kick an easy three points. The home side crossed the line with a rolling maul but the referee adjudged that the ball had been held up.The visitors upped the tempo of their game and extended their lead to 17-0 before the break. March continued to battle in the second half but the visitors took advantage of their breaks to score three more tries.Again, the Bears produced fine rugby at the end of the match but Kempston eventually ran out comfortable winners to secure promotion. This weekend, March II are back in action with a home fixture against Newmarket II.All players are reminded that training continues on Wednesday nights at the sports field from 7pm.
