WISBECH Rugby Club's first XV kicked off their London North East Four season on Saturday, but it proved to be a disappointing day for their home supporters.
Wisbech made a very good start in the opening quarter of their game against Beccles Bulls but they only had one penalty to show for their possession and territorial advantage.
The visitors got back in to the game and pushed Wisbech back before a loose ball near the try line was pounced on by Ling, who crashed over to score.
Beccles extended their lead before the break when Wade stepped-up to slot over a penalty and make the half-time score 8-3.
Both teams looked to score in an end-to-end second half and the Wisbech defence had to be strong to hold up two attacks on the try line.
The game seemed to be going Wisbech's way when they scored a converted try, but the hope was short-lived and a try from Rix put the Bulls ahead again.
Again, the home side responded strongly but a drop kick in the final minutes gave Beccles a 16-10 lead and they held on to take the points.
Skipper Luke Feaviour said: "We are disappointed with the result and we were made to pay for not making the most of an excellent start to the game.
"The forwards worked hard against a bigger pack but we were out-muscled in some of the loose exchanges and we lacked some composure in the final third of the field."
There was more bad news for Wisbech when number eight Andy Hoyles was forced off the field with an injury in the closing minutes. Ligament or tendon damage in his arm could keep him out for several weeks.
Tomorrow (Saturday), Wisbech travel to play Chelmsford (3pm).
