MARCH Bears Rugby Club president Barry Feetham has admitted he's been delighted with the club's progress since their miserable start to the campaign.
The Bears suffered 87-3 and 69-0 thrashings in the early stages of the season as the team struggled for players but have bounced back resoundingly with vastly improved performances.
The side even tasted their own 62-0 win against Ely Thirds and only lost to St Ives II 5-0 at the weekend as coaches Richard Horne and Carl Moore continue to stamp their authority on the club.
“We’ve come on leaps and bounds since the start of the season,” said Feetham.
“I’m delighted because we were struggling to get players at the start of the season and now we’ve got a good squad.
“It’s down to the fact that we’ve got two quality coaches and a lot of hard work has been done by them and the players.
“We said results didn’t really matter in our three-year plan as long as performances continued to improve and they really have done.
“The lads are enjoying their rugby again.”
A late try from St Ives’ debutant Richard Harries was enough to inflict a defeat on the Bears who battled valiantly during Saturday’s defensive encounter.
Skipper Aaron Boxall praised the players for their performances and continued effort throughout a period where the icy conditions have caused countless fixtures to be postponed.
