Continuing the pressure, tight-head Martin Day forced his way over the line with a powerful run through the Norwich defenders.

The Wildcats seemed to be in control of the match when Zac Lakey finished a well worked moved by supporting a break from Albert Smith.

However, experience club stalwart Iwan Jones was sent to the sin-bin towards the end of the first half.

Norwich were able to build some strong phases together before their fly-half cleverly jinked through a few defenders to reduce the deficit.

The Wildcats went into the half time break enjoying a 15-7 lead.

Knowing Norwich would want to close the gap early, Wisbech knew they would have to keep hold of the ball. It was the Wildcats who were able to score first with Dan Di Meo dotting down in front of the posts, converted by hooker Ollie Lake.

The half time changes with brothers Albert and Harry Smith forming an effective partnership in the midfield. Albert putting his brother through for two tries while finishing one himself firmly placed the Wisbech Wildcats in the driving seat.

Fittingly it was Dan Di Meo who completed his hat-trick Wisbech Round Table man-of-the match performance with a final try for Wisbech.

Final score: Norwich III 7 - Wisbech Wildcats 48.

A pleased Wildcats Skipper Olly Mackett said: “It was another strong team performance with the Wildcats showing a perfect blend of youth and experience.

“With the guidance and coaching of our Director of Rugby Leonard Veenendaal and our head coach Nico Steenkamp the Wildcats have become a much more structured side and are now unbeaten in two seasons so far.

“It was a great day at the office and a number of youngsters stepped up to the plate. Our DoR Leonard’s vision and strategy to integrate the under 17’s with the senior side and persisting with it is already paying off for us and it is fantastic to see how much our young players have come on in a short space of time.

“Like all the lads I’m looking forward to playing a home game at some point this season but our away form has been excellent.

“We have two important fixtures this coming weekend and will need a full squad commitment at training on Tuesday and Thursday and available for selection to see us through and maintain our undefeated momentum.”

Wisbech Wildcats will be playing in the Friday Night ‘under the lights’ at Ely and away to St Ives in the County Cup on the Saturday.

Training Tuesday and Thursday 7pm and all new and returning players are always welcome.
