ATHLETES from across Fenland competed in this weekend’s 194 mile Birketts Round Norfolk Relay.

March Athletics Club and Fenland Running Club both entered teams in the gruelling 17-stage event which sees a different runner complete each section. A baton is carried throughout the marathon relay, containing unequal stage distances, which continues throughout the night.

The race began at 10am on Saturday morning at Lynnsport, in King’s Lynn, and saw huge commitment from all runners, helpers and supporters who encouraged each team to complete the daunting course.

Fenland Running Club set a new club record of 22 hours, 54 minutes and five seconds as they finished ninth in a field of 54 teams. March AC finished in 24 hours and 12 minutes and completed the course in a very respectable 17th position.

Rebbeca Cousins, Trudy Sayell and Robin Parker produced prize-winning runs, across different stages of the event, for Fenland Running Club.
