MARCH Town United boss Alan Russell is hoping two additions to his squad will improve his options ahead of the Ridgeons First Division match against Gorleston tomorrow (Saturday).

Central midfielder Ian Simmonds and former Swaffham striker Stuart Skeels have trained with the Hares this week and Russell believes both can add a significant new dimension to the squad.

Russell said: "Ian is a real terrier in midfield and Stuart is a good target man up front. Ian brings bags of experience to the team and, although he is based in Essex, we have several games in that area coming up so he will have no problem getting to the matches.

"I have been tracking Stuart for a few months and it is great to finally get him into the squad."

Despite making two signings in a week, Russell admits he is not finished. He said: "I want to bring in a few more players and improve the strength in depth of the reserve squad."

Both players are likely to make an appearance in tomorrow's home game and Russell is looking to avenge his team's 2-0 defeat at Gorleston just three weeks ago.

The Hares' boss is also looking for a reaction following March's heart-breaking exit from the FA Vase on Saturday.

March produced another good display at Lincoln Moorlands and their football was rewarded with a goal from Ashley Brand just 10 minutes from time.

With the game seemingly in the bag and the March players thinking ahead to the next round, the home side turned the game around in dramatic style and scored twice in the final three minutes to dump the Hares out of the Vase.

Russell said: "I am so disappointed for the lads after they worked their socks off. We obviously took our foot off the pedal and they managed to scramble two soft goals we should never have given away.

"We coped with everything they threw at us for 87 minutes and we looked comfortable to get the win we deserved.

"But these things happen in football and we just have to put that behind us and learn from the experience."

Looking ahead to the Gorleston game, Russell hopes the defeat will galvanise his players. He said: "If we play half as well as we did against Lincoln, then I fully expect us to get a result against Gorleston."

Harry Roe is still serving a suspension and will miss tomorrow's game but he will return to the squad after the weekend.
