A MORE focused performance from Long Sutton men's first team guided them to a 5-2 victory at Spalding I in the HA Trophy, on Sunday.

Sutton eased their way into a free-flowing style of hockey that had been missing in recent matches, and goals from Jamie Featherstone, Mark Bryan and Nick Bailey put the visitors in control at the break.

Spalding got back into the game with two goals after the break and yellow cards for Stu Belding, and Featherstone put Sutton on to the back foot.

However, the visitors countered superbly and Ben Smith's strike and a second for Bailey put the game beyond Spalding.

But it was a different story for Sutton in their East Premier B match at home to bottom side Crostyx I, on Saturday.

A disjointed performance from the home side allowed Crostyx to open up a 2-0 lead at the break, but Sam Markillie's goal early in the second period gave Sutton some hope.

Despite creating goalscoring chances, Sutton were unable to find the back of the net and Crostyx punished them with a third.

Long Sutton II faced a tough match at Cambs Nomads II and despite some battling performances in midfield, the visitors slumped to a 9-0 defeat.

Sutton III recorded their second win of the season thanks to a 5-3 victory at home to Cambs City V, on Saturday.

In a display of exceptional finishing, Simon Wakeham and James Grant netted a brace apiece and Daniel Booth completed the scoring for the home side.

And Sutton IV had something to cheer when they picked up their first league point of the season, on Saturday.

Eurice Van Dam hit the target for Sutton's first goal of the season but Spalding raced into a 4-1 lead early in the second half.

However, the home side dug in and a brace from Ben Hicks and another goal from Ian White earned them a 4-4 draw and a welcome point.
