THE March and District Table Tennis League Closed Championships take place at Neale-Wade Community College, March on Sunday.The event starts at 8.45am and there will be adult and juniors competing in doubles and singles competitions.John Blyth and Peter Munch are the top two seeds in the men's singles but they will face challenges from Mike Bradshaw, Shaun Davies and Terry Rudd.Blyth and Munch head the seedings in the veteran and super veteran competitions and will combine as top seeds in the men's doubles.Terry Rudd and Derek Stacey are the top seeds in the vintage veterans. Shaun Davies and Trevor Furlong are number two seeds in the men's doubles, followed by Derek Stacey and Mike Bradshaw, and Terry Rudd and Eddie Rust.The ladies competitions are set to be dominated by Alison Edge, who will be looking to retain her ladies and veteran ladies singles titles. She will team up with Janet Nicholls in the ladies doubles and John Blyth in the mixed doubles.Tim Wager and Dave Barron are the top seeds in the hugely competitive restricted singles competition while Tim and Alec Frusher head the restricted doubles, ahead of Dave and Phil Pentney.In the junior events, Nat Butcher looks set to retain the under-12 title and he is seeded number two in the under-14 singles behind Luke Barron. Barron is seeded number two behind Marti Pentney in a very competitive under-17 singles.In the junior doubles, brothers Nat and Alex Butcher compete in the under-14s while Marti and Luke will be looking to win the under-17 event.
